Arrive Shanghai, the metropolis and the financial centre of Shanghai. Make your own way to the hotel and free for own arrangement during the day. Pick up from the hotel late afternoon and enjoy a cruise on the Huangpu River followed by dinner. (D)

Shanghai
Pick up from the hotel and visit the classical Yu Yuan Garden and the City God Temple bazaar. The Yu Yuan Garden is the best preserved classical garden in Shanghai. Stroll along the Bund Waterfront where you see grand buildings of various designs: mansions left behind by foreign powers in the last century. Enjoy the famous acrobatic show after dinner. (B, L, D)

Shanghai – Zhouzhuang – Suzhou
Transfer to Zhouzhuang, a water village dating back to 1086 AD of the Northern Sung Dynasty. The village comprises of a labyrinth of rivers and waterways, connected by bridges of various designs. Transfer to Suzhou in the afternoon. (B, L, D)

Visit the Tiger Hill and the Garden of Master of Nets. The Tiger Hill houses the famous leaning pagoda built 1,000 years ago as well as amazing display of bonsai. The Garden of Master of Nets is a UNSECO Heritage site, to recreate natural landscape in miniature, reflecting metaphysical world view of the Chinese of the 11th – 19th century. Make a stop at the Silk Embroidery before transfer to Hangzhou. When the famous European adventurer Marco Polo travelled to Hangzhou in the 13th century, he described the city as ‘the most beautiful and magnificent city in the world’. The West Lake, the landmark of Hangzhou, is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and inspires poets and artists in China for centuries. Enjoy a boat trip on the West Lake. (B, L, D). Visit the Terracotta Warriors Museum. The site is one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the century. It is estimated to house around 6,000 terracotta statues of warriors, horses and chariots, which formed the underground army of Emperor Qin. Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the place when the famous Chinese monk Xuanzang who travelled on the Silk Road to collect Buddhist scriptures back to China, translated and stored the scriptures. The adventure of this Chinese monk becomes well known by the famous Chinese novel ‘Journey to the West’ or ‘Stone Monkey’. Enjoy a Tang Dynasty show in the evening. (B, L, D)

Visit the Shaanxi History Museum. The museum houses over 300,000 items of murals, paintings, pottery, coins as well as bronze, gold and silver objects. Fly to Beijing in the morning. Visit the Olympic Park to see the world famous Bird Nest and Water Cube, stadiums for the Beijing 2008 Olympics for a photo stop. Afterwards, transfer to the Great Wall. First built in 220 BC under the direction of the first emperor of the Middle Kingdom Qin Shi Huang, it was a military defence system against invasions from the north. The Great Wall extends from East to West over 6,000 km and is one of the Wonders of the World. gear up for a day to the breathtaking tour to explore the magnificent Great Wall. Return to the city in the afternoon and visit the Temple of Heaven, the imperial altar where the Emperor, as Son of Heaven, prayed for good harvest on behalf of his country. Departure Hong Kong to Shekou by boat or Guangzhou by express train. Formally known as Canton, Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong province, and one of the earliest ports opened to the West since the 15th century and played an important role in history of modern China. On arrival, transfer to the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Dr Sun was the Father of Modern China who led the revolution in 1911 to overthrow the empire system. The Memorial Hall was built on the place where Dr Sun assumed office as the President of new China in 1921, and you’ll find out the role played by Guangdong in modern history of China. Tour to the Chen Family Ancestral Temple – a classical Cantonese architectural style with lots of wood/stone/brick carvings and clay sculpture. After lunch, experience local life by exploring streets and Qing Ping Market – an open-air market where the hawkers sell the produces made by the local farmers. Kaping Diaolou are UNESCO World Heritage sites, telling stories of early Chinese immigrants involved in hard manual labour in Australia and North America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and remitted their hard earn money to build village houses and communal towers, incorporating western architectural styles copied from the west – a living museum of the links between Chinese communities in southern China and the rest of the world.
